The title is literal. You play as Malak, a winged enforcer cast out of the Silver City. Unlike traditional narratives where angels fall due to pride or love, Malak fell because they discovered a "protocol error" in Heaven’s source code. Most angel games let you fly immediately. This one does not. Your angel, "Azrail-9," moves with a heavy, wet thud. The left trigger toggles between Walk (silent, slow) and Stride (noisy, faster). You cannot fly. However, you have a Short-Glide mechanic. By double-tapping jump, you unfurl one partially healed wing for 1.5 seconds. This allows you to cross gaps or drop silently, but every glide consumes Grace. In v1.0.0, Grace is so scarce that players report gliding only 3-4 times per hour of gameplay.
