The Aruba IAP-205 (802.11ac Wave 1) reached a mature state in 2021. While no longer a "latest generation" device, it remained fully supported in the Aruba Instant OS (AOS) tree. The recommended stable firmware branch for production environments in 2021 was AOS 8.6.x (Long Term Support), with AOS 8.9.x available for organizations needing newer features but requiring rigorous testing.
Key finding: The IAP-205 can still serve low-to-medium density environments safely, provided firmware is updated to at least 8.6.0.11 (released early 2021) to address critical CVEs.

Critical Note for 2021: Do not attempt to upgrade an IAP-205 to AOS 8.7.x or 8.8.x versions. Those releases dropped support for the AP-205 and would brick the device or cause boot loops.
