Some Cynics DVRs are rebranded Hikvision or Dahua units. They use a "Secure Password Reset" via a .xml file.
Go to the manufacturer's support portal. Since "Cynics" is generic, try Hikvision's password reset portal (hikvision.com/en/support/tools/password-reset) or Dahua's reset (dahuasecurity.com/support/passwordReset).
Generate a XML or CSV file using their tool (requires downloading a small app to your PC).
Load that file onto a USB drive. Insert the USB into the DVR's USB port. The DVR should automatically detect the file and reset the password.
If this fails, your DVR is likely not a Hikvision clone.
Since these systems often use stock firmware, the default password is rarely unique. Try the following common combinations (Username / Password):
Most Cynics DVRs use a "Super Password" that works regardless of what user password is set. This is the most common solution.
If the system logs in, go to Main Menu > Account and change the password to something you will remember.
Many generic DVRs (often XMEye or XM-based systems) have a hidden factory reset method via Telnet.
