Dft File - Viewer Online
If you have a DFT file sitting on your desktop right now, follow this universal workflow to view it within two minutes.
Step 1: Choose your platform. Navigate to ShareCAD.org or SharePLM (search "Siemens Online Viewer").
Step 2: Upload the file.
Click "Choose File" or drag your .DFT file into the browser drop zone. Note: Check the website’s privacy policy regarding file retention before uploading sensitive military/automotive designs.
Step 3: Wait for server rendering. The cloud server slices the DFT file into tiles (similar to Google Maps for engineering). This usually takes 5 to 20 seconds depending on file complexity. Dft File Viewer Online
Step 4: Interact with the drawing. Once loaded, use your mouse or touchscreen to:
Step 5: Export (If needed). Most online viewers do not allow you to edit the DFT file (that requires Solid Edge), but you can usually Print to PDF or take a screenshot to share the visual information with non-engineering colleagues.
If you’ve ever received a .dft file from a customer or colleague, you know the immediate frustration. You double-click it, and your computer stares back blankly. If you have a DFT file sitting on
DFT files are native to Solid Edge (a professional 3D CAD program from Siemens). Unlike a PDF or JPG, you can’t just open one in a browser—at least, not without the right tool.
But what if you don’t have Solid Edge installed? What if you’re on a different OS, a locked-down work computer, or just need a quick one-time view?
Good news: Online DFT file viewers exist. This post walks you through your best options, step by step. Step 5: Export (If needed)
Unlike standard formats like PDF or JPG, or universal CAD formats like DXF, DFT is a proprietary format owned by Siemens Digital Industries Software.
Because of this proprietary nature, there is no browser-based website (like an "AutoCAD 360" equivalent) that natively opens DFT files directly in Chrome or Firefox. To view these files, you generally have two options: convert them or use a free desktop viewer.
