Fastcraft 1.8.9 -
FastCraft changes the way the game prioritizes chunk loading. In vanilla 1.8.9, loading a new PvP map or teleporting via /hub would cause a "world freeze." FastCraft prioritizes player movement over background loading, meaning you can walk smoothly while the world renders around you.
Absolutely. Despite newer optimization mods like Sodium (for modern versions) or VulkanMod, FastCraft 1.8.9 remains the undisputed king for legacy PvP clients.
The only downside is that development has stopped. Player, the developer, moved on to other projects. However, version 1.23 and 1.25 of FastCraft are so stable that they have become "abandonware perfection"—they simply do not need updates. fastcraft 1.8.9
For 1.8.9, FastCraft remains technically functional but is rarely used standalone today. Most PvP clients (e.g., Lunar Client, Badlion, CheatBreaker) incorporate equivalent or superior optimizations. The original mod files are still archived on sites like CurseForge (mirrored) and MCArchive.
Several factors kept FastCraft from mainstream fame: FastCraft changes the way the game prioritizes chunk loading
Cause: Entity culling is too aggressive.
Fix: In fastcraft.ini, set B:dynamicCulling=false. This tells FastCraft not to hide entities that are invisible but within render distance.
Cause: Conflict with another core mod (usually BetterFPS or VanillaFix for 1.8.9). Fix: Remove BetterFPS. FastCraft does what BetterFPS does, only better. Keep OptiFine and FastCraft only. The only downside is that development has stopped
Testing on a mid-2015 system (i5-4460, GTX 960, 8GB RAM) running Hypixel SkyWars:
| Scenario | Vanilla FPS | With FastCraft | |----------|-------------|----------------| | Lobby (80 players) | 35-50 | 75-90 | | In-game (island view) | 120-140 | 150-200+ | | World loading (pre-gen) | Stutters every 3s | Smooth |
Server-side tests (1.8.9 Spigot + 50 hoppers clocked at 1Hz) showed TPS drop from 20 to ~17.5 vanilla; with FastCraft, stable 20 TPS.
While FastCraft works "out of the box," power users can edit the configuration file to squeeze out even more performance. Navigate to .minecraft/config/fastcraft.ini.
