The game takes place on Mt. Hikami, a fictional mountain in Japan based on the real-life haunted location of Mt. Osore (Mount Fear). Mt. Hikami was once a site for the Kami-yon ritual, a dark ceremony to send lost souls to the afterlife. Players follow three protagonists:

On the Nintendo Switch, Maiden of Black Water runs admirably. While it doesn't reach the 4K resolution heights of the PlayStation or Xbox versions, the portable nature of the Switch lends itself well to the game's episodic structure. The "Ghost Clairvoyance" ability, which allows you to see through the eyes of the spirits to find hidden items, looks crisp in handheld mode. However, players should expect some frame rate dips during graphically intense scenes with heavy rain effects.

A new system where exposure to water (rain, rivers, ghost attacks) fills a Moisture Gauge. The wetter you are, the more susceptible you become to ghost attacks—but also, the more powerful your camera’s Holy Water lens becomes.
