Some HP ZBooks have a password reset jumper (two solder pads) on the motherboard. On ZBook 15 G5:

  • Result: Clears BIOS Admin and Power-On passwords.
  • Many ZBook 15 G5 units do not have this jumper (HP removed it in later revisions). Check board revision: G5 Rev 1.0 often has it; Rev 2.0+ lacks it.

Success Rate: Low (only works if the password is "user" level and admin rights are available). But try it—it costs nothing and takes 5 minutes.

Before attempting a reset, you must understand what you are up against. The HP ZBook 15 G5 uses a modern Intel 8th or 9th Gen platform with a Lattice or Winbond BIOS chip (often 25-series SPI flash). Unlike older laptops, this model does not have a simple CMOS battery you can pop out.
