If you cannot stomach hunting for a vintage scan, know that Ronny Lee’s DNA exists in modern books:
Finding the file is useless if you don't know how to use it. Here is a 4-week roadmap.
Week 1: The Grip Ignore the solos. Open the PDF to the first chord chart. Practice the C6 grip (3rd fret, A string root). Set a metronome to 70 BPM. Strum four downbeats per measure. Do not move to a new chord until you can change to F6 without stopping. jazz guitar method ronny lee pdf
Week 2: The Walk Lee has a section on "Walking 6th Chords." Take a 12-bar blues. Play root-position 6th chords while alternating your thumb (or pick) between the root and chord. This mimics a pianist's left hand.
Week 3: The Melody Take a simple tune like "When the Saints Go Marching In." Use his chord melody arrangements. Play the top note (melody) with your pinky and strum the chord below. Go slow. Slower than you think. If you cannot stomach hunting for a vintage
Week 4: The Solo Only now should you look at Lee’s arpeggio studies. He uses only the chord tones (1, 3, 5, 6). Play quarter notes over a backing track. If you can't swing quarter notes, you cannot swing eighth notes.
If you manage to acquire a copy of his method (physical or digital), you will notice that Lee does not believe in "magic." He believes in systems. His teaching philosophy revolves around three pillars that are essential for any jazz guitarist: Finding the file is useless if you don't know how to use it
Etudes are not just technical exercises but written-out solos with swung eighth notes, ghosted attacks, and guide-tone lines. Lee indicates phrasing with slurs and accent marks, forcing the student to internalize swing articulation even when playing alone.
