Kegareboshi Animation

A pivotal sequence in the animation involves the gathering of small lights or stars. Visually, this is a kinetic crescendo. The animation shifts from static, contemplative frames to dynamic action. The act of collecting these lights is animated with a sense of desperation; the movements are jagged and urgent, symbolizing the struggle to find meaning. This sequence recontextualizes the "filth"—what was once a dirty, dark landscape becomes a canvas for light.

The philosopher Immanuel Kant described the sublime as something so vast and powerful it terrifies us, yet we derive pleasure from witnessing it. A magical girl becoming a witch is sublime. We are not celebrating suffering; we are confronting the fragility of purity.

Animation Style: Rotoscoping over live-action performers, then digitally “corrupted” with grain and chromatic aberration. Contrasts sterile, geometric citadel interiors (white, gold, hard light) with the organic, pulsating black of the Kegare. kegareboshi animation

The video makes excellent use of negative space (empty space within the frame). In the early scenes, the character is often framed against vast, empty backgrounds, visually communicating loneliness. As the narrative progresses and other characters (or manifestations of the self) appear, the frame becomes more crowded. The composition shifts from isolation to community, visualizing the lyric’s desire to be together.
