The chapter ends with a quiet, heartbreaking monologue: “I didn’t want to protect them. I wanted to protect this feeling. This morning. This dew. This cat. But now, they’ll never look at me the same way again. Perhaps slow life was always a fantasy for someone like me.” The final panel shows a royal messenger cresting the distant hill, bearing a flag of the kingdom—the same kingdom Yuan fled centuries ago.
