Netapp Naj-1501 — Manual

Q1: Is the NAJ-1501 the same as the DS4243? A: In most cases, yes. The NAJ-1501 is the specific SKU for a 24-bay, 4U shelf with IOM3/IOM6 modules. The DS4243 is the generic product name. Most manual contents are interchangeable.

Q2: Can I use non-NetApp drives in the NAJ-1501? A: The manual states that only qualified drives are supported. Technically, some third-party SAS drives work, but you will lose support, disk firmware health checks, and LED management. Not recommended for production. Netapp Naj-1501 Manual

Q4: Where can I find the dip switch settings for shelf ID? A: That information is only in the official manual (Chapter 4, “Shelf Addressing”). Typically, a 4-bit switch on the rear mid-plane sets IDs 1–12. Do not guess—switch 1 (ON) = ID 1, etc. Solution: The NAJ-1501 also carries 3

Solution: The NAJ-1501 also carries 3.3V for the sideband logic. In the manual, note 7 would state: "Do not use a standard mini-SAS cable; only NAJ-1501 supports the pre-charge circuit." Use a multimeter on the sideband pins (Pin C7) to test for 3.3V.

Solution: The NAJ-1501 is a passive cable. It does not require drivers. Check for physical damage. If the copper shielding is kinked, the signal will degrade. Replace it.
