By default, Resident Evil 4, like many GameCube and Wii games, is designed for a 4:3 aspect ratio. When played on a widescreen monitor without adjustments, the game appears with black bars on the sides, maintaining the original aspect ratio but not utilizing the full screen real estate. For players who prefer a more cinematic experience or simply want to make use of their widescreen monitors, a widescreen fix is essential.
