I keep seeing posts across Reddit, Discord, and various forums asking for or claiming to have a “verified portable” version of Civil 3D. Let me clear this up once and for all.
Civil 3D is not designed to be portable. It’s a complex Windows application with deep registry hooks, multiple background services (FlexNet, Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service, AdskLicensingAgent), and dependencies on MS SQL Express, .NET Framework 4.8+, and Visual C++ runtimes.
Any “portable” version you find is a repack by unknown third parties. These repacks:
