To understand the why behind the update, we reached out to the artist behind SugaryKitty (who prefers to be known simply as “SK”). In a brief but revealing email exchange, SK shared:
“The past year taught me that my users aren't just hobbyists—they're illustrators making rent money, streamers building careers, and teachers creating classroom materials. The old asset structure was fine for 2021, but it wasn't serving their real-world needs. The 'sugarykitty updated' tag became a running joke because I kept promising fixes and delaying them. This time, I wanted the update to actually mean something. The 4K glitters alone took six weeks of rendering. But seeing the relief in the community chat? Worth it.”
SK also hinted at the next major update: a collaboration with three other pastel artists for a “Mega Crossover Pack” expected in Q3.
A small subset of users on older iPads (2018 models and earlier) reported that the new 4K assets cause memory warnings.
