Tp Link Archer C6 V3.20 — Firmware
TP-Link has a notorious habit of silently changing internal chipsets while keeping the external casing identical. The original Archer C6 v1 and v2 used a Qualcomm or MediaTek chipset. The v3.20, however, officially switched to a Realtek RTL8197FS SoC.
Why does this matter? Because firmware is not cross-compatible. If you download a firmware file for v2 and flash it to v3.20, you will brick the router.
Q1: Does the Archer C6 v3.20 support automatic updates? Yes, but it’s unreliable. TP-Link’s cloud push for v3.20 is often delayed by months. Always update manually. tp link archer c6 v3.20 firmware
Q2: I lost my TP-Link Cloud account after firmware update. Why? The v3.20 firmware update resets the cloud certificate. Go to Advanced > TP-Link Cloud and re-login. If that fails, perform a 30-30-30 hard reset (30 sec power off, 30 sec reset button, 30 sec reboot).
Q3: The latest firmware broke my mesh (OneMesh) with a repeater.
v3.20 does not fully support OneMesh with newer extenders (RE series). Downgrade to firmware version 1.3.5 (found in TP-Link’s archives) to restore compatibility. TP-Link has a notorious habit of silently changing
Q4: Can I downgrade the firmware? Yes, but only to versions released after your router’s manufacture date. TP-Link introduced a security anti-rollback in late 2024. If you try to install a 2022 firmware on a 2025 update, it will reject it.
